Happy Summer! There is something so glorious about this time of year. It’s the season of travel, outdoor adventures and abundant fresh produce. You almost don’t want it to end! This summer, I traveled back to Grasse, France, the world capital of perfume. I always feel at home in Provence and love reconnecting with its renowned perfumery community. During my trip, I toured a leading natural fragrance producer and watched the distillation process unfold. I touched and smelled pink peppercorns, patchouli and dried seaweed in their pure form; it was eye-opening to see how fragrances are derived from these unusual natural ingredients. I worked side-by-side in the lab with a master perfumer (a “nose”) formulating fragrances and learning about the latest scent trends in Europe. You’re in for a real treat this Fall with the debut of our newest fragrance creations. We’re one year in, and there’s no slowing us down. In August, we will release our latest home fragrance product as well as expand the eco reed diffuser line. I’m excited to bring new products and innovations to market and look forward to sharing these with our loyal fans soon. Be sure to follow Luxey Maison on Instagram (@luxeymaison) and Facebook (@luxeymaison1) to keep up with the latest news. I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable summer and thank you for your support! A bientôt, Chinelo Founder, Luxey Maison ![]() With Summer Solstice fast approaching, we are now fully into the summer season. I often recommend to customers to switch up your home fragrance as the seasons change. It’s a simple and effective way to update your interior and infuse new energy into your abode. I'm frequently asked what my favorite scent of the moment is. Warm weather, outdoor pursuits and abundant sunshine call for something fresh and light. One of the hottest fragrance trends for this summer is a crisp citrus scent. I custom blended the perfect summer fragrance to hit just those notes. Luxey Maison’s Star Ruby with an accord of grapefruit and verbena is vibrant, fresh and exudes summertime sparkle. It’s available in our online store as a candle and scented oil reed diffuser. I’ve been burning Star Ruby constantly in the workshop, and guests have been enchanted by its refreshing scent. If you’re looking for something bright and beautiful indoors and out, I recommend Star Ruby for your summer fragrance. Like a catchy summer song, this scent hits all the right notes. Today is a reminder of what a beautiful, precious planet we inhabit and an opportunity to incorporate greener practices into our everyday lives. Tip #4: Reuse the Vessel ![]() “Modern”... “elegant”... “simple chic.” Yes, our customers rave about our gorgeous packaging but did you know Luxey Maison candle and diffuser vessels were consciously designed to be reused? Or that our packing chips are biodegradable? We’re proud Californians after all, and it’s important for us to do our part to reduce waste. We’ve created some hacks to upcycle your used Luxey Maison vessels and give them new life. Candles: A candle has reached its max burn time once it has burned down to 1” of wick. Our pure soy wax makes it easy to clean the vessel. Carefully pour hot water into the vessel and let it sit long enough for the wax to soften. Loosen the metal wick holder from the bottom and discard. Pour out the water and scoop out the softened wax. Hand wash the vessel with soap and warm water to remove remaining pieces of wax. Rinse and wipe dry. Your vessel is now ready to reuse. Diffusers: Our diffuser vessel can similarly be repurposed. Once the diffuser oil has evaporated, dispose of your used diffuser reeds. Pour about one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol into the vessel to rinse out any remnants of oil. Give the vessel a gentle shake side-to-side to clean the interior and then pour out the alcohol. Repeat if the vessel still has oil. Allow the vessel to dry before reuse. Some customers have used their candle vessels as water tumblers, succulent planters, and makeup brush holders. We’ve even seen the diffuser vessels reused as cute terrariums. What creative way have you reused your vessel? Post your image to Instagram, tag @luxeymaison and use #myluxey. We’ll repost our favorite uses all month long and choose one lucky contest participant at the end of May to receive a free gift*! *Contest winner must have a US shipping address to receive free gift. Tip #3: Burn Baby Burn ![]() While it may be tempting to burn a scented candle all day long, the recommended burn time is only 3-4 hours in one sitting. This allows for a more controlled and even burn. If you experience excessive "mushrooming" (when the wick begins to tilt and bloom), you are likely burning your candle for too long. Be sure to extinguish it after 4 hours of continued use and wait for the flame to be fully out before leaving the candle unattended. Also, it's important to always burn your candle on a heat safe surface and keep your burning candle away from drafts. Besides being a fire hazard, drafts will push the candle to consume more energy, and in turn, reduce the life of your scented candle. Last month we introduced a new series on our expert home fragrance tips. You can check out the first one here. It's been wonderful to hear from our customers how much they enjoyed the first installment so now we're back to share more. Tip #2: Watch the Wick Before you burn any candle, ensure your wick is trimmed. A new Luxey Maison candle comes pre-trimmed at the optimal wick length. A candle wick should be at ¼ of an inch before each burn. Any longer and you risk a very hot, uncontrollable flame and any shorter the wick will be too close to the wax and not fully ignite. If you’re a candle enthusiast, it’s worth buying a proper wick trimmer like the gorgeous ones made by Wickman. We'll soon offer these on luxeymaison.com! The benefits of a properly trimmed wick are less smoke and soot when you blow out the flame.
Another clever method to reduce smoke when extinguishing the flame is to dip the wick. Simply use a long metal object to push the burning wick into the melted wax pool. Once the flame is out, lift the wick back into an upright position. Trim your wick after you've fully extinguished the candle and the wax has had a chance to cool. You're likely a pretty savvy candle user. You know what scents you favor, and you’re already educated on the benefits of soy wax vs. paraffin. That’s all there is to know about candles, right? Maybe not. You might have been missing some key steps in candle burning. There is so much more to proper candle usage other than lighting it and letting it burn. Luckily, Luxey Maison is here to elevate your luxury candle game. This month we will begin a series on candle and diffuser tips to help you get the most out of your prestige home fragrance investment. Tip #1: The first burn The first burn is a crucial step not to be overlooked. If you want to prolong your candle, it is recommended you do not burn it for hours on end in the first use. A brand new candle should be lit and enjoyed for about one hour and then extinguish the flame. This is very important and the step even the most seasoned candle users tend to miss.
Why only one hour? It gives the candle a chance to form a top layer of melted wax and produce an even burn the next time it is lit. Candle wax has a memory and that first, even layer will mean optimal burn the next time around. Still haven't checked off all the gifts on your list? Don't fret!
